Alluvial Brewing Company of Ames, IA is a Bronze certified Iowa Green Brewery who has earned their certification through the management of resources and waste, as well as energy efficiency practices. Alluvial was awarded bonus points for their implementation of an on-site organic CSA farm, as well as possessing 25 acres of native vegetation.

Big Grove Brewery- Des Moines

Big Grove Brewery and Taproom in Des Moines achieved platinum level certification in May 2024 for their demonstrated commitment to minimizing their environmental impact.  In Des Moines, sustainable practices implemented by Big Grove include; the installation of a hop vacuum to extract more beer per batch, generating nitrogen on-site, recycling their cooking oil and the formation of a company-wide Green Team. As a company, Big Grove has really set the standard of what it means to be a sustainable craft brewery here in Iowa and is the first brewery to have two facilities certified at the platinum level.

Big Grove Brewery’s Iowa City facility, originally certified as a Gold brewery in 2018, has most recently achieved a Platinum level certification for their overall environmental commitment, focusing on solid waste management and energy efficiency. From the implementation of permeable pavers on their patio to installing an infuser in the brewhouse - Big Grove has taken significant steps in their sustainability journey to becoming one of only two Platinum level certified breweries.

Big Rack Brew Haus

Big Rack Brew Haus of Winterset, IA has focused greatly on overall energy efficiency and solid waste/resource management leading them to be awarded a Silver level certification. Big Rack has implemented repurposed building materials at their facility, as well as used local ingredients such as honey in some of their beer recipes.

Brightside Aleworks

Brightside Aleworks in Altoona, IA has made sustainability a priority, helping them to achieve a Silver level certification. Brightside has implemented a proactive environmental plan which outlines documentation of brewhouse heat recovery protocols, process line inspections, and solid waste reduction processes.

Confluence Brewing Company

Confluence Brewing Company of Des Moines, IA has earned a bronze level certification in part due to their high level of energy efficiency and use of the Brewers Association Sustainability Bench-marking Tool. Using this tool, Confluence analyzes their usage of natural resources in efforts to minimize consumption levels. The brewery has also put a strong focus on resource and solid waste management through the use of recyclable packaging and spent grain landfill diversion.

Contrary Brewing Co.

Contrary Brewing Co. of Muscatine, IA received a Bronze level certification for their overall waste management and energy efficiency efforts. Some of these implementations include recycling efforts, diversion of food waste from the landfill, and installation of high-efficiency appliances at their facility.

Court Ave Restaurant & Brewing Co.

Court Ave (CABCo.) was the 10th Iowa craft brewery to join the IGBC program and the first from the Des Moines metro area to be certified. CABCo. has focused on energy efficiency and resource/solid waste management through the installation of a high-efficiency HVAC unit, appliances, and water heater, as well as outstanding recycling practices.

Crawford Brew Works

Crawford Brew Works is a family friendly micro-brewery located in Bettendorf IA. Crawford has implemented initiatives in recycling packaging,  energy efficiency, and heat retention in order to commit to sustainability. Crawford is committed to sustainability, and has  installed proper pipe insulation to contain energy, recyclable containers of multiple sources, and installing high efficiency appliances.   

Exile Brewing Company

Exile Brewing Company in Des Moines, IA was awarded a Silver level certification in February of 2019 and has since taken extraordinary measures to recertify as a Gold certified brewery in 2020. Some implementations put in place by Exile include detailed standard operating procedures, a plan for recycling fats, oils, and grease in their kitchen, and the use of ionized air for bottle rinsing instead of water. Most recently Exile was awarded the Platinum Certification in December of 2021 because of additional measures taken such as 100% of windows and doors being replaced with Energy Star versions.

Fat Hill Brewing

Fat Hill Brewing of Mason City, IA was awarded a Gold level certification for their well-rounded efforts in implementing sustainable practices. Fat Hill has implemented techniques for recycling, diversion of spent grain from the landfill, as well as used recyclable packaging and reclaimed materials throughout their facility.

Fenders Brewing in Polk City, IA has been awarded a Bronze level certification for their commitment to energy efficiency and resources/solid waste management. Fenders has implemented all high-efficiency appliances, lighting, and HVAC throughout their facility, as well as made focused efforts on their recycling practices.

Firetrucker Brewery of Ankeny, IA is a Bronze level certified brewery who has implemented numerous sustainable practices in order to earn this certification. Firetrucker has installed a high-efficiency HVAC system and water heater, as well as put focus on a heat recovery and efficiency project to minimize utility consumption.

Franklin Street Brewing Company

Franklin Street Brewing Company in Manchester, IA has taken great effort in earning a Gold level certification from the Iowa Green Brewery Certification program. Uniquely, Franklin Street has implemented a water reuse process to capture process water from brewing to be used for wart chilling.

Iowa Brewing Company has been awarded a Silver level certification and is currently the only brewery in the Cedar Rapids metro area who has been certified by the Iowa Green Brewery Certification program. A few sustainable practices implemented by Iowa Brewing include their reuse of process water, reduction of solids in wastewater discharge, and use of environmentally friendly/neutral cleaning chemicals.

Keg Creek Brewing Company

Keg Creek Brewing Company of Glenwood, IA has over time made significant steps in improving their sustainability efforts. Since an initial brewery audit in 2016, Keg Creek has implemented practices leading to their awarding of a Gold level certification in 2020. Keg Creek’s most recent initiative includes generating a mission statement that encompasses their values of environmental stewardship as a brewery.

LakeTime Brewery of Clear Lake, IA earned a Silver level certification through the Iowa Green Brewery Certification. Their procedures regarding water conservation and recycling contributed greatly to their awarded level ranking. Some procedures implemented include the installation of high-efficiency equipment, recycling or reusing of process water, and monitoring their water to beer ratio.

Limestone Brewers

Limestone Brewers of Osage, IA was awarded a Bronze level certification in 2019 for their overall efforts in resource and solid waste management. Limestone has implemented thorough recycling practices, as well as installed high-efficiency appliances, lighting systems, and an HVAC unit in their facility.

NoCoast Beer Co.

NoCoast Beer Co, of Oskaloosa, IA was most recently awarded a Platinum level certification after initially receiving a Bronze level certification for their energy efficiency and resource/solid waste management practices. Some of these practices include their spent grain and food waste diversion, implementation of reclaimed materials throughout the facility, and on-site quality assurance lab.

Okoboji Brewing Co.

Okoboji Brewing Co. of Spirit Lake, IA was awarded a Bronze level certification for their overall commitment to solid waste management and energy efficiency. Installation of a high-efficiency HVAC unit, doors and windows, and spent grain diversion are a few practices contributing to their certification. Uniquely, Okoboji Brewing Co. harvests yeast from local lakes to be incorporated in their brewing process.

Paha Cider Co.

Paha Cider Company opened its doors in the second half of 2023 with sustainability as a core focus from the beginning. A few of the sustainability measures that Paha Cider Company has implemented include hot water reclamation to minimize the use of their hot water heater, incorporating upcycled and recycled equipment into the brewing process, as well as local sourcing of many of their ingredients.

Peace Tree Brewing Co.

Peace Tree Brewing Company in Knoxville, IA became the fifth Gold certified Iowa Green Brewery in October of 2019. With their focus on Energy Efficiency and Resource Management through local sourcing, Peace Tree has become an industry leader and advocate for sustainable brewing in the State of Iowa. A unique feature of Peace Tree’s brewery is the custom hot air exchange system designed to capture ambient heat emanating from brewing equipment and redistribute that air to heat their facility.

PIVO Brewery

PIVO Brewery in Calmar, IA earned a Silver level certification for their overall waste reduction practices. PIVO has implemented tracking mechanisms to manage everything from their energy and water usage to their wastewater generation rate. These practices allow the brewery to take proactive measures towards decreasing their overall waste generation.

Reclaimed Rails Brewing Company

Reclaimed Rails Brewing Company from Bondurant, IA was awarded a Bronze level certification for their commitment to resource/solid waste management and water quality/conservation. Having more than 80% reclaimed materials in their facility, this brewery does their name justice. Reclaimed Rails use of local hops, coffee, and honey are also a contributing factor to their certification.

River Ridge Brewing

River Ridge Brewing of Bellevue Iowa is our newest Gold Certified Brewery. With a bold focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, Nic, Allison, Kelly, and Nick created River Ridge Brewing to celebrate good local beer with every local river community.

Second State Brewing

Second State Brewing of Cedar Falls, IA was an early adopter of the Iowa Green Brewery Certification program, earning a Gold level certification. Practices including installation of LED lighting, energy-efficient coolers, and reclaimed bowling alley artifacts have helped contribute to their Gold level certification.

SingleSpeed Brewing - Cedar Falls

Singlespeed Brewing Company’s Cedar Falls location was awarded a Silver level certification for their continued commitment to sustainability and implementations made at this facility. Practices include the diversion of both spent grain and food waste from the landfill, as well as the use of environmentally friendly/neutral cleaning chemicals. The Singlespeed brand holds sustainability-minded values which are evident through both of their locations.

SingleSpeed Brewing- Waterloo

Singlespeed Brewing Company in Waterloo was the first Platinum certified Iowa Green Brewery. Owner Dave Morgan and the Singlespeed team consulted with the Iowa Green Brewery Certification (IGBC) throughout the entire restoration of an abandoned Wonder Bread factory, opening in 2017. Their certification was earned, in part, for their installation of Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, as well as Food waste initiatives in place.

Textile Brewing Company

Textile Brewing Company in Dyersville, IA., which inhabits an early 1900's sewing factory was awarded a Gold level certification in April 2021. Textiles puts a large emphasis on energy efficiency, being one of only a handful of Iowa breweries with solar power. The entire south-facing roof of the building has been outfitted with a Photo Voltaic solar array, helping to offset the brewery's energy usage and costs. The brewery has also been designed using almost entirely repurposed materials that were originally in the building. Textile becomes the 29th brewery in Iowa to earn a Green Brewery Certification.

Twisted Vine Brewery

Twisted Vine Brewery of West Des Moines, IA earned a Bronze level certification for their environmental practices regarding resource waste management, energy efficiency, and water conservation. A few sustainable practices implemented by Twisted Vine include diversion of spent grain from the landfill and landscape watering efficiencies.

West-O Beer

West-O Beer in Milford Iowa is our 13th Bronze brewery that has taken steps towards sustainability. Using eco-friendly company cars and a centrifuge to reuse liquids in the brewing process. These actions are great steps towards being a forward and sustainable brewery. 

Worth Brewing

Originally awarded a bronze level certification in August of 2017, Worth has since taken extraordinary measures to re-certify at a gold level in November 2020. The brewery has put a large emphasis on both its energy efficiency and environmental management practices, utilizing all high efficiency equipment and minimizing wastewater discharge from the brewing process. Worth also received additional points for using locally sourced oats, honey, and hops for specialty beers!

7 Hills Brewing Company

7 Hills Brewing Company of Dubuque, IA has implemented several waste reduction initiatives pushing them to receive a Bronze level certification. Initiatives include tracking mechanisms in place for monitoring energy, water, and inventory, as well as the installation of several high-efficiency systems including appliances, water heater, and motion sensors/timers for lighting throughout the facility.

As a company, Big Grove has really set the standard of what it means to be a sustainable craft brewery here in Iowa and is the first brewery to have two facilities certified at the platinum level.

Big Grove Brewery- Iowa City

Big Grove Brewery’s Iowa City facility, originally certified as a Gold brewery in 2018, has most recently achieved a Platinum level certification for their overall environmental commitment, focusing on solid waste management and energy efficiency. From the implementation of permeable pavers on their patio to installing an infuser in the brewhouse - Big Grove has taken significant steps in their sustainability journey to becoming one of only five Platinum level certified breweries.

Exile Brewing Co.

Exile Brewing Company in Des Moines, IA was awarded a Silver level certification in February of 2019 and has since taken extraordinary measures to recertify as a Platinum certified brewery. Some implementations put in place by Exile include detailed standard operating procedures, a plan for recycling fats, oils, and grease in their kitchen, and the use of ionized air for bottle rinsing instead of water.

NoCoast Beer Co.

NoCoast Beer Co, of Oskaloosa, IA was most recently awarded a Platinum level certification after initially receiving a Bronze level certification for their energy efficiency and resource/solid waste management practices. Some of these practices include their spent grain and food waste diversion, implementation of reclaimed materials throughout the facility, and on-site quality assurance lab.

SingleSpeed Brewing- Waterloo

Singlespeed Brewing Company in Waterloo was the first Platinum certified Iowa Green Brewery. The Singlespeed team consulted with the Iowa Green Brewery Certification (IGBC) throughout the entire restoration of an abandoned Wonder Bread factory, opening in 2017. Their certification was earned, in part, for their installation of Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, as well as Food waste initiatives in place.

Fat Hill Brewing of Mason City, IA was awarded a Gold level certification for their well-rounded efforts in implementing sustainable practices. Fat Hill has implemented techniques for recycling, diversion of spent grain from the landfill, as well as used recyclable packaging and reclaimed materials throughout their facility.

Franklin Street Brewing Company

Franklin Street Brewing Company in Manchester, IA has taken great effort in earning a Gold level certification from the Iowa Green Brewery Certification program. Uniquely, Franklin Street has implemented a water reuse process to capture process water from brewing to be used for wart chilling.

Keg Creek Brewing Company

Keg Creek Brewing Company of Glenwood, IA has over time made significant steps in improving their sustainability efforts. Since an initial brewery audit in 2016, Keg Creek has implemented practices leading to their awarding of a Gold level certification in 2020. Keg Creek’s most recent initiative includes generating a mission statement that encompasses their values of environmental stewardship as a brewery.

Paha Cider Company opened its doors in the second half of 2023 with sustainability as a core focus from the beginning. A few of the sustainability measures that Paha Cider Company has implemented include hot water reclamation to minimize the use of their hot water heater, incorporating upcycled and recycled equipment into the brewing process, as well as local sourcing of many of their ingredients.

Peace Tree Brewing Co.

Peace Tree Brewing Company in Knoxville, IA became the fifth Gold certified Iowa Green Brewery in October of 2019. With their focus on Energy Efficiency and Resource Management through local sourcing, Peace Tree has become an industry leader and advocate for sustainable brewing in the State of Iowa. A unique feature of Peace Tree’s brewery is the custom hot air exchange system designed to capture ambient heat emanating from brewing equipment and redistribute that air to heat their facility.

River Ridge Brewing

River Ridge Brewing of Bellevue, Iowa is one of our newest Gold Certified Breweries. With a bold focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, River Ridge Brewing was created to celebrate good local beer with every local river community.

Second State Brewing of Cedar Falls, IA was an early adopter of the Iowa Green Brewery Certification program, earning a Gold level certification. The entire south-facing roof of the building has been outfitted with a Photo Voltaic solar array, helping to offset the brewery's energy usage and costs. The brewery has also been designed using almost entirely repurposed materials that were originally in the building. Textile becomes the 29th brewery in Iowa to earn a Green Brewery Certification.

Big Rack Brew Haus of Winterset, IA has focused greatly on overall energy efficiency and solid waste/resource management leading them to be awarded a Silver level certification. Big Rack has implemented repurposed building materials at their facility, as well as used local ingredients such as honey in some of their beer recipes.

Brightside Aleworks in Altoona, IA has made sustainability a priority, helping them to achieve a Silver level certification. Brightside has implemented a proactive environmental plan which outlines documentation of brewhouse heat recovery protocols, process line inspections, and solid waste reduction processes.

Iowa Brewing Company has been awarded a Silver level certification and is currently the only brewery in the Cedar Rapids metro area who has been certified by the Iowa Green Brewery Certification program. LakeTime Brewery of Clear Lake, IA earned a Silver level certification through the Iowa Green Brewery Certification. Some procedures implemented include the installation of high-efficiency equipment, recycling or reusing of process water, and monitoring their water to beer ratio.

PIVO Brewery

PIVO Brewery in Calmar, IA earned a Silver level certification for their overall waste reduction practices. PIVO has implemented tracking mechanisms to manage everything from their energy and water usage to their wastewater generation rate. These practices allow the brewery to take proactive measures towards decreasing their overall waste generation.

Court Ave (CABCo.) was the 10th Iowa craft brewery to join the IGBC program and the first from the Des Moines metro area to be certified. CABCo. has focused on energy efficiency and resource/solid waste management through the installation of a high-efficiency HVAC unit, appliances, and water heater, as well as outstanding recycling practices.

Crawford Brew Works is a family friendly micro-brewery located in Bettendorf, IA. Crawford has implemented initiatives in recycling packaging,  energy efficiency, and heat retention in order to commit to sustainability. Crawford is committed to sustainability, and has  installed proper pipe insulation to contain energy, recyclable containers of multiple sources, and installing high efficiency appliances.
