Long-Range Transportation Plan Survey Story Map
The Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is completed by the Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)
The Missoula MPO facilitates collaboration between federal, state, and local government agencies, interested parties, and community members in the transportation planning process. The primary responsibility of the MPO is to create a Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) that prioritizes transportation funding and improvements throughout the Missoula urban area.
The Long Range Transportation Plan sets out to:
- Determine priorities for transportation projects and programs.
- Consider all modes of transportation.
- Plan for enhanced regional connectivity.
- Identify how funding should be allocated.
- Coordinate a common vision between local agencies.
Projects by Type:
The below map displays projects that are being considered for this plan. The projects are symbolized to emphasize the project categories. These categories include:
- Safety: a project aimed at providing engineering based improvements to areas with a history of crashes
- Active Transportation: a project aimed a providing improved bicycle, pedestrian or other active-mode travel infrastructure
- Complete Street: a project that includes a wholistic redesign with all transportation modes included
- Roadway: is a large scale project often include reconstruction of an entire corridor with all modes considered
- Bridge: project involving bridge infrastructure
- Unspecified: Are newly considered projects for this plan that need further time to define their roll and intend design outcomes
Projects by 2020 Long-Range Plan Status:
The below map displays the projects included in the 2020 Long-Range Transportation Plan in which this plan will be updated. These projects are symbolized to display their status as determined from the 2020 LRTP or the progress they have seen since.
These categories include:
- Committed: Projects that were highly prioritized and have funding committed to their completion through MPO funding mechanisms.
- Recommended: Projects that were highly prioritized and are planned to receive funding for their completion through MPO funding mechanisms.
- Illustrative: Projects included in the planning list that do not meeting the prioritization consideration to be included for funding within the LRTP timeline. These project may be more favorable for funding through grant opportunities.
- Other descriptions displayed in the map describe various states of progress since adoption of the 2020 LRTP
2024 LRTP Project Scoring:
The below map displays the projects that are being considered for the 2024 Long-Range Transportation Plan Update and the tier in which they have been ranked based on their initial scoring. Scoring of the projects was completed to understand how the projects compare based on the MPO's goals of:
- Improve safety and promote health to enhance quality of life
- Advance sustainability and community resilience to protect natural resources and address climate change
- Expand mobility choices to improve efficiency and accessibility for people and goods
- Connect and strengthen communities to create a more equitable region
- Maintain assets and invest strategically to boost economic vitality
