Betty Riffel with her granddaughter, Alissa Van Wynen. Betty Riffel has been researching the contaminated English-Wabigoon river system that ran through the community she grew up in and wants the government to recognize the harm done to members of Wabauskang First Nation.

Quibell was once home to the people of Wabauskang First Nation, a community situated between the Dryden mill and southeast of Asubpeeschoseewagong and Wabaseemoong, communities where people have receive compensation for mercury poisoning.

In Wabauskang First Nation band councillor, Della Van Wynen, questions why no efforts were made by the federal government to contact her family, who once lived in Quibell, about receiving compensation for the mercury contamination.
