Wei Qing

Wei Qing, a notable Han Dynasty general, shaped Chinese military history with strategic victories against the Xiongnu.

Shanwu (Yanmen Commandery): In 128 BC, Wei Qing, now a trusted member of the Emperor's extended family, led 30,000 cavalry from Shanwu in Yanmen Commandery, achieving a significant victory against the Xiongnu by killing thousands of their soldiers​.

  1. Yunzhong Commandery to Longxi region: In 127 BC, Wei Qing led a 40,000-strong cavalry from Yunzhong Commandery, maneuvered to Gaoque, and then to the Longxi region, outflanking and surrounding the Xiongnu forces. This campaign was remarkably successful, resulting in the capture of Xiongnu soldiers and a vast number of cattle, earning Wei Qing the title Marquess of Changping​​.

Dingxiang: In 123 BC, Wei Qing launched a military campaign from Dingxiang, achieving several thousand enemy kills. A subsequent battle from Dingxiang, though inconclusive, led to significant Xiongnu casualties​​.

Dai Prefecture (Eastern Theater of the Battle of Mobei): In the Eastern Theater of the Battle of Mobei, Huo Qubing, Wei Qing's nephew, launched an attack from Dai Prefecture, significantly contributing to the Han victory​

Western Theater (Dingxiang) of the Battle of Mobei: Wei Qing led forces from Dingxiang in the Western Theater of the Battle of Mobei. Despite being outnumbered and facing ambush, his strategic use of defensive countermeasures and a surprise attack during a sandstorm led to a Han victory​​.

Khangai Mountains and Orkhon Valley: After the sandstorm tactic at the Battle of Mobei, Wei Qing's forces pursued the Xiongnu to the Khangai Mountains, capturing the Fortress of Zhao Xin in the Orkhon Valley and securing another significant victory​​.
