While Jurupa Valley is one of the youngest cities in California, it has rich history and culture with nine distinct communities that came together as one.

Reach Out has been gathering input from community members and organizations to develop a strategic plan for improving the city's environmental conditions and availability of resources around health and well-being of its residents.

We would like to share what we have learned so far and ask for further insights!

What we did

Town Hall at Mission Bell Elementary School, Reach Out, March 2024

Town Hall at Mission Bell Elementary School, March 2024

We began by interviewing 20 individuals representing various entities (government, school district, business, faith groups, healthcare, etc.) in the fall of 2023.

To gather public opinion, we also conducted a community survey from October 2023 to January 2024, by mailing it to each household and distributing it at community events and gathering spaces. We received 546 responses. The survey focused on satisfaction with different aspects of the community, sense of belonging and safety, and knowledge of community resources.

With the interview and survey results, we hosted 13 town halls across the city between March and October 2024. We shared what we found and gathered input on five priority areas that came up. The section below shows the location of each town hall along with attendees' answer to this question:

"Where do you see Jurupa Valley on a scale of 1-10, where 10 represents a thriving, healthy community?"

After completing town halls, we reviewed different approaches, programs, and services that a city can use to improve community conditions that support health and well-being.

What makes Jurupa Valley a great place to live?

The interviews revealed that Jurupa Valley is a tight-knit community with many individuals and organizations collaborating to offer community resources. The greatest assets of Jurupa Valley are the people who passionately care about the community.

"There's a love for the community and there's people that are committed to the community... I think that's the greatest strength, when they rally around each other for the community, great things happen."

From key informant interview, 2023

Sense of belonging varied by neighborhood, but most people believe that they belong in their community. The majority of people who completed the survey have been living in Jurupa Valley for more than 10 years, and are satisfied with community connectedness, availability of space for active living, availability of cultural events, and access to community resources.

What can we do to make Jurupa Valley better?

Both the interviews and surveys revealed five areas where improvement efforts can be centered to make the city an even better place to live.

Through town halls, we explored each of these priority areas with community members. We asked two questions: "What problems have you seen?" and "What is a potential solution?"
