What is GIS???

What is GIS?

GIS stands for Geographical Information Systems. It can show and describe information about the world in maps.

Why is GIS important?

GIS is important because it makes it easier to see what is happening in the environment. If there is a wildfire or a dangerous thing happening in a forest or mountain, then people can try to help or monitor what is happening.

Who uses GIS and how is it beneficial to them?

Anyone can use GIS, but the biggest users of GIS are many retail businesses. This is because people have to find a good place to build new stores, parks, and buildings. GIS can help people find resources. It can help people find places that have good soil, a good amount of space, and have resources for the building or creation they want to build there.

What are some GIS jobs?

There are many jobs you can get in GIS. Some of these are:

A job you can get is being a GIS technician. GIS technicians get about $67,000 or more per year. They test, create, and maintain the code for many GIS projects. They make sure that the digital website has all the information, pictures, and any other additional work that is there.

Another job you could get is being an archeologist. Archaeologists are people who study and learn about animals, ancient civilizations, and landscapes. They help people learn and understand about nature and the past. Archaeologists get about $60,000 per year.

The next job is one of the most important jobs. The GIS manager is basically the boss over everything.  They make sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to be doing. The GIS manager gets about $98,000 per year.

Is GIS a good job to have?

GIS is a good job to have because you get a good paying job. GIS is not the best job because it can become stressful and has very high expectations for their workers. But, it is very helpful with helping people know where places are. I personally think that having a job with GIS would be a fun job to have.
