Jedburgh Town Team Workshop
Wednesday 15th March 2023 | Jedburgh Town Hall

Summary Note
Could a Town Team work in Jedburgh?

"We already know our common purpose... but it might no be inclusive enough yet"
Representatives of organisations in Jedburgh discussed the principles of bringing together a team of people to develop a Place Plan for investment in Jedburgh. Groups are already working together, and share a common purpose, but the demographic is limited. It's the same people doing everything - the load needs to be shared and we may need help to build capacity.
There are a number of voices missing from the conversation at the moment, and the first task is to spread the word and encourage wider engagement with more groups and more people in the town.
Mapping groups is a good idea, and young people need to be involved.
"less jargon - just get everyone's ideas"
What Place Making is, and the purpose of creating a Place Plan needs to be more accessible, and towns people who have been to the first meetings need to be out spreading the word, and talking about their experiences and conversations to help to open this up to others.
The Community Council could be a leader in this, but the Town Team needs to invite everyone to be involved.
"this is not about pet projects - it's the common purpose for the betterment of the town, and everyone being behind the plan"
What is a Town Team in Jedburgh?
"an opportunity to bring groups together and create a vision for Jedburgh"
Reminiscing on a "Vision for Jedburgh" from a 1980's school project, everyone is enthusiastic for what that vision could look like for now - particularly to young people.
We can bring groups together, but would benefit from external support from a facilitator, and like the idea of using artists to help us visualise with different community groups.
"There are a core of people who could start this, now we just need to get going"
