The faults of the United States with Cuba

The United States and Cuba held a rocky and complicated relationship. After years of American imperialism, Cuba wanted to be independent from the United States, Cuba wanted to have a better economy that favored the Cubans instead of the Americans. With this, the Soviets decided to take advantage of this anti-americanism and influence Cuba to want complete independence from the United States. The Film, Four Days in September, displays a group of Brazilian revolutionists who simply wanted to fight against their government's military regime. With this, they decide to kidnap the Ambassador as a form of leverage against the government for their control and undemocratic actions against the people.

The United States intervened in Cuba during the Cuban Revolution during the Cold War because of their need for control. For many years, the U.S. held control over Cuba, and thus the idea of Cuba becoming a part of the Soviets or becoming communist was a dreadful idea that the United States could not handle. The U.S. was also becoming the hegemon, a global leader which always held a grasp on Latin America since the Monroe Doctrine and Good Neighbor Policy. With the Alliance for Progress, the United States thought it might be better if they did not intervene militarily in Cuba but could still influence them in other ways. It was in the U.S. national interest to intervene in Cuba and because of their constant need for control, they constantly wanted to dominate Cuba. With feeling suffocated by the United States, the Soviets were some type of freedom they could use to escape from the control of the United States. If none of these actions for dominance in Latin America, there is a possibility that Cuba would have not grown to resent the U.S. and similarly to other Latin American nations, these governments would have favored the U.S. instead of communist guerilla groups rising. Essentially it could have been prevented had it not been for the U.S.'s constant need of control and mistreatment of the Latin American nations, specifically Cuba.
