Overview: Menomonee River Levee System
Why did MMSD take on this project?
Flooding in the late 1990's damaged homes in the Hart Park neighborhood. This 100-year flooding event was a catalyst for this project. The aerial image in the background was taken in 2000 and below are images of the flooding in N 68th St.
Looking north from the intersection of 68th St. and River Parkway.
Looking south from the intersection of 68th St. and State St.
MMSD began the project in the early 2000's by purchasing homes and changing the landscape to reduce flood risk along the Menomonee River. This is the Hart Park neighborhood prior to the 100-year flooding event.
