543rd GPC 2021 Hurricane Support

Introduction


The 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season was the third most active season on record. A total of 21 named storms, 7 being hurricanes, and 4 becoming major hurricanes.


Claimed the lives of 170 people and destroying over 80 billion dollars in damage, the 2021 hurricane season caused severe damage along the eastern coast.


From start to finish, the 543rd GPC provided analytics and products to monitor and assess the hurricanes through the Atlantic.

543rd GPC Support


At the onset of the hurricane season, the 543rd created a weather tracker to begin identifying possible storm paths and intensities. Along with this came river gauge products that forecasted which rivers would be likely to flood. On the right is example of a product that the 543rd produce during Tropical Cyclone Three.


The 543rd provides a visual representation of the affects of Tropical Storms to provide situational awareness for decision making to support DSCA Operations. The map to the right is an example of a product made in June of 2021.


The 543rd provided support to FEMA, PNNL, NHS, and other organizations during the disasters. from sources such as NOAA and Inciweb.


Continued Support


Even without active hurricanes the 543rd continues to monitor flooding, river levels, and other weather topics throughout the U.S. with real time applications such as the one on the right.
