Ancient Babylon

Ancient Babylon. Click to expand.

Ancient Babylon(Modern Day Babel, Iraq) was the birth place of modern civilization. Being the largest city in the world at that time, Babylon was home to many astronomical discoveries that impacted the world to this day. The Babylonians made impactful discoveries in astronomy, physics, and most importantly, math. The discoveries of the number system, algebra, and geometry play a vital role in modern mathmatics and my major, Computer Science. Without these discoveries, there would be no binary numbers (which is used to program a computer) or any ability to understand and calculate problems which is the basis of computer science.

Joseph Marie Jacquard

Joseph Marie Jacquard, a silk maker, was born in Lyon France and worked there for all of his live. He was responsible and greatly impacted the industry of computing through his invention, the Programmable Loom. Jacquard is truly responsible for starting a series of inventions that led to modern day computing because his invention inspired Charles Babbage and his Analytical Engine, then Ada Lovelace, who proposed the idea that computers could be used for many other purposes besides math. Later down the line, Her proposition led to companies like IBM creating what we know today as the modern computer. Without him, we wouldn't have modern computers the way we see them today.

Xia Peisu

Xia Peisu. Click to expand.

Xia Peisu, Famously Known as "The Mother of Computer Science in China", was born in Chongqing, China in 1923. Xia made numerous contributions to the research and design of high-speed computers in China. She is also credited with designing a high-speed array processor and a range of multiple parallel computers. This is important, because she was the first person to introduce Computer Science and Computer Theory in China and revolutionized the way computer work. China is now the leading country in Artificial Intelligence and the Second leading country in Computing Power. Without Xia Peisu, numerous computing discoveries that impact the computer science world may have never been discovered.

CSIRAC

CSIRAC, originally referred to as the CSIR Mk 1, emerged as a pioneering force in Australia's technological landscape as the nation's very own digital computer. Holding the title of the fifth stored program computer globally, CSIRAC holds the esteemed distinction of being the oldest surviving first-generation electronic computer. It earned another prestigious accolade: being the world's first digital music player. This invention contributed a lot to how modern computers work today as well as the ability to listen to music digitally.

LED

The Light Emitting Diode(LED) was invented by Russian Scientist Oleg Losev. The invention of the LED has progressed throughout computer science history. Starting off as a physcial bulb emitting light, then turning into thousands of minuture display pixals emmitting on the modern day TV, Phone, and Monitor Display. This invention has led the development of basically everything that has a display and the world would not have advanced in technology without it.

Amit Singhal

Singhal was born in Jhansi, India and is nicknamed "The King of Ranking". Singhal is single-handidly responsible for rewriting the google search algorithm making it the very fast and effecient. Although he was fired from Google 6 years after he joined due to sexual allegations, He revolutionized the efficiency and accuracy of the google search bar. Without him, the google search algorithm would have stayed inaccurate and inefficient like it was before the year 2000.

Ifa Divination System

Ifa Divination System. Click to expand.

The Ifa Divination System is a religious practice with its centre in south-western Nigeria. The figure Ifá or Orunmila, is regarded by the Yoruba as the god of wisdom and intellectual development. Ifá divination relies on a system of symbols. Western scientists and mathematicians have admitted that the binary system existed in the African Ifa divination system. The historical path for base-2 calculation begins with African divination and is transformed into binary calculation. This binary calculation is used in every ingle modern circuit which means it is used in every single piece of technology in the world.

Flappy Bird

We all remember the enraging yet, addicting game , Flappy Bird. The game was developed by the vietnamese programmer, Dong Ngyuen. A year after the game released in 2013, it took off and became a global hit game earning $50,000 dollars a day. Although it was removed a year after, the game became one of the first major viral games. The programming of the game was relatively simple and it just showed that it doesn't take much knowledge to create a viral game.

The Color TV

The Color TV. Click to expand.

The first color tv was invented by a Mexican electrical engineer, Guillermo González Camarena. They way he developed it was through his patented chromoscopic adapter with which black and white cameras of the day could capture color. The software side of the tv was developed by others and when combining both together, the colored TV was created. Such an invention, has revolutionized the modern day TV.
