There are several planned improvements within the project area.

CONSTRUCTION IMPACTS

Vehicular, pedestrian and cycling traffic will be impacted for the duration of construction due to LANE CLOSURES. The project will be completed in two phases and impacts to traffic will differ from phase to phase. For more information refer to  Timelines  Section.

STAGE 1

One lane, in the eastbound direction (going towards Burlington) will be open to vehicular traffic, and the sidewalk on the north side of the bridge will be open.  Pedestrians will have access to a pedestrian crossing allowing them to safely cross from the south side of the street to the north side.

STAGE 2A

Two lanes will be open on the south side of the bridge facilitating both eastbound and westbound vehicular traffic. Pedestrians will have sidewalk access on the south side of the bridge and will have access to a pedestrian crossing allowing them to safely cross from the north side of the street to the south side.

STAGE 2B

The south shoulder lane will be closed over the bridge. Two lanes will remain open facilitating both eastbound and westbound vehicular traffic.  Pedestrians will have sidewalk access on the north side of the bridge and have access to a pedestrian crossing allowing them to safely cross from the south side of the street to the north side.

DETOURS

During Stage 1 of construction, one eastbound lane will remain open only. The westbound traffic will be detoured down Avonsyde Boulevard, Parkside Drive, and Hamilton Street North, as shown in the map below. This detour route will be available for the duration of construction and can be used by drivers to avoid traffic congestion over the bridge replacement site.
