This is a collection of teaching & learning resources to support educators to integrate geographic information systems (GIS) in teaching the Ontario Grade 9 Exploring Canadian Geography course.

This Ontario Grade 9 Exploring Canadian Geography course is organized into five Strands of Learning that are listed below.

Strand A: Geographic Inquiry & Skills Development

⭐Expanded learning: Students will engage in learning about careers related to geospatial technologies and the skilled trades. See A2.4
Strand B: Physical Geography & Physical Processes in Canada
⭐Expanded learning: Students will have an opportunity to analyze the impact of climate change on Earth’s physical processes. See B2.4
Strand C: Managing Canada’s Resources & Industries
⭐New expectation: Students will engage in learning about various Canadian industries in which the use and application of geospatial technologies is important. See C1.7
⭐New expectation: Students will engage in learning about forms of land tenure and ownership in Canada, including Indigenous land claims and land rights. See C1.8
Strand D: Changing Populations
⭐New Expectation: Students will continue to develop their data analysis skills while they explore the factors that contribute to quality of life and human well-being in Canada. See D1.2
Strand E: Liveable Communities
⭐New expectation Students will have an opportunity to learn about innovative methods and practices in community planning. See E2.5
⭐Expanded learning: Students will have an opportunity to analyze the impact of climate change on land use and land-use planning. See E1.2
