The Symonds Brothers, Richard, George, William and Stanley, opened a large store on the corner of Florence Street and Alexander Street. Their business consisted of furnishings, grocers, cabinet makers and undertakers and they were the first business to introduce a hearse in Port Pirie.

They sold the business in 1940 to Charles Geddes and in 1950 the BHAS shiftworkers opened it as their clubrooms. In 1958 a gathering of 400 people were present to open the extensions to club, which was opened by BHAS Works Manager, Mr Frank Green. The club was always a popular venue for events, functions and snooker competitions or for locals to catch up and have a game of pool. The club ran a sweep every fortnight to raise money for the annual Smelters Picnic and in 1993 the club won the "Best Community Club Award".
