The People's Network for Land & Liberation

A program to win a new world

Introduction

The People’s Network for Land & Liberation is the most inspirational and concrete way I know of to imagine a movement to win a new world.

David Cobb, Decolonizing Economics Summit 2023

We stand at a historic moment of linked crises. We face crises of exploitation and oppression, of environmental degradation, of white supremacy and systemic racism, of state violence and political collapse, of housing and food, and many more. For many people, these crises threaten the very necessities of life– food, shelter, health, and community.

At the same time, mainstream institutions and organizations are not solving the problems and many are making them worse. As the pressure builds, familiar structures are coming apart at the seams.

Around the world, people are creating new and reclaiming old ways of living in their communities– new ways of relating to each other, the land, and the earth that are based in cooperation, respect, and sustainability. They are fighting to create liberated zones that give glimpses of a better future.

The People’s Network for Land & Liberation (PNLL) is an emerging, BIPOC-led coalition of organizations that share a vision for a new world. Each works in its own location to build cooperative, regenerative and balanced systems. Together, the network ties together individual efforts, shares information and techniques, and inspires others.

Mission Statement

The mission of PNLL is to decommodify the land to reestablish right relationship with the earth and all our relatives and relations. We aim to advance democratic ownership of the means of production and liberatory social relationships. We are committed to building communities that regenerate the earth’s lifegiving eco-systems.

PNLL consists of autonomous organizations that share best practices and opportunities to allow each entity to fulfill its organizational mission.

A Shared Program

The Solidarity Economy

The People’s Network for Land & Liberation is rooted in the idea of a Solidarity Economy (SE).

This definition of the Solidarity Economy draws on a two year international consultation process by RIPESS (Internatioal SE Network) to develop a common definition:

The Solidarity Economy is a post-capitalist framework that connects up practices that are rooted in solidarity economy values.

Values for the Solidarity Economy

  • Solidarity (cooperation, mutualism, reciprocity, sharing, etc.)
  • Participatory democracy (at work, in community, in governance, etc)
  • Equity in all dimensions (race, class, gender, etc.)
  • Sustainability (living in harmony with people and planet)
  • Pluralism (not a one-size-fits-all approach. A world in which many worlds fit.)

Taken together, the solidarity economy expresses a vision, a framework, and a global movement for a post-capitalist society grounded in real world practices.
