U.S. Drought Monitor
Drought occurs when a region has an imbalance between water supply and water demand over an extended period of time. Between 1980 and the present, the cost of drought exceeded $100 billion, making drought monitoring a key factor in planning, preparedness, and mitigation efforts at all levels of government.
This map shows drought intensity levels. Data for this map is produced weekly by the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Networks of linked sensors enable us to continually monitor—and map—drought conditions across the state.
