Modern Print Capitalism

How novels, newspapers, and digital media influence the nation-state

How the media shapes the way we view the world - BBC REEL

(TCU) - Education has expanded drastically over the past few decades with the many technological advancements that have been introduced. People can now find and learn about any topic they want with a click of button. The accessibility of knowledge has greatly increased the literacy of the world, with more people able to read and write than ever before. This has all been a result of print capitalism (nationalism) and the link between the modern novel, modern newspaper and digital media allowing elite nation-states to share their knowledge with the rest of the world. Novels can be fictional or non-fictional allowing people to learn concepts of the modern age. Novels also allow us to play with the sensory, imagery of reality. This allows us to depict a national imagination of how we want our government to be operated.

Can the government influence private media?

Newspapers give us something we can rely on for the factual truth about what is going on in modern society. When the knowledge you get from a book isn't enough to satisfy your search for knowledge and understanding, Newspapers are there to help you get a sense of what is true and what is false. Although there is fake news, false information can lead to a civil penalty. Newspapers allow readers to feel a part of the community at large, reading or living through the same stories they see in the articles. Through novels, newspapers and digital media, people feel more attuned with millions of other people sharing the same language and customs. These forms of print became the embryo of the national imagined community. It is the American political and economic issues portrayed in the (digital) press that allows for globalization to take on full effect, blending with other nation-states around the world that may be addressing similar issues.
