BACKGROUND
For the site suitability analysis USC SSCI 135 final I wanted to create something practical that could actually help someone, a local business or non-profit. On my personal Facebook page I made a public post asking my friends and family if they knew anyone who could benefit from a free service like this and was met with many replies.

Over text, I explained the class, spatial sciences, and the potential benefits and use cases for a site suitability analysis to Britney Wang owner of BaoBae , a dumpling pop-up restaurant in the LA area. It took some time, but eventually we set up a video call to collect & refine the initial criteria. We later met again to review my initial data collection sources and specific guidelines / cutoffs / trade-offs for my analysis. It was important to me that I was on the same page with Britney and not making arbitrary judgment calls using magic numbers.

METHODS
Suitable Sites Manual Process of Elimination & Ranking
Using the criteria below I created buffers ~100-500 meters (according to client's instruction) around the desired nearby spots,i.e, breweries, tourist destinations (parks, museums, etc.), restaurants (high cluster), then using the Find Existing Locations tool with expressions matching the criteria found 24 possible spots. 18 ruled out due to lack of foot traffic (pop density < 15k persons per sq mile), 3 ruled out due to no kitchen access, leaving 5 ranked sites that I had made scaled (in hierarchy of rank) notes for. Some suggestions like ("not nearby other Chinese restaurant competition" had to be done manually as there isn't currently any data that tracks food type by region within the area of study - LA)

TAKEAWAYS
1)
I had a lot of trouble getting into my SSI org ArcGIS account due to USC portal nonsense, so I settled on a trial version, but on 4/19, the day of my unfortunately late meeting (when we were able to find a common time), my Steven_Harmon_LearnArcGIS account was deleted, and I lost all my work prior which forced me to find all my data again and re-style it. At least I was now working on a stable account that wouldn't disappear without notice.
I should have made it a priority to troubleshoot account stuff earlier on instead of a temporary 60 day student account fix.
2)
I enjoy spatial sciences and maps a lot more than I thought I would. Which is a shame, because this is my last semester of college, and I'm graduating.
I regret not taking this class earlier on, maybe I could have minored, or at the very least used the hard techniques from these classes to really make my interactive work make a difference in people's lives instead of being just escapist entertainment.
3)
Hopefully I can learn how to make dumplings with her sometime at her next pop-up this summer. I've made them once before with my friend Amy Qianqian Huang, and I love store bought frozen 饺子 so learning from a professional chef would be cool.
I really enjoy cooking
