Local Area Energy Plan our Lancaster District
What is a Local Area Energy Plan?
The Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP) will identify the most cost-effective pathway for the local area to reach net zero and realise local benefits at a local level by using a range of technologies which harness energy from the sun, wind, river and hydrogen.
The LAEP addresses electricity, heat, and gas networks, future potential for hydrogen, the built environment (industrial, domestic, and commercial) its fabric and systems, flexibility, energy generation and storage, and providing energy to decarbonised transport e.g., electricity to electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.

What does this mean to the people of Lancaster District?
From Summer 2024 the Local Area Energy Plan will be actioned through projects which will attract funding and investment.
These projects will generate training and sustainable job opportunities for people across Lancaster District.
Using cleaner energy will also result in a healthier environment.
Who is involved with the Local Area Energy Plan?
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund has funded the Council to:
- Contract manage Energy Systems Catapult who will:
- Collect and analyse data.
- Engage with a range of organisations that have detailed knowledge and experience in energy production and distribution.
- Produce energy scenarios
- Help the council and partners to lead and produce the Local Energy Plan.
- Deploy energy leads to programme manage the project work
