Awooo!

I live out in the middle of nowhere. It is warm most of the year, and the plants are prickly when my paws step on them. Sometimes the sun is too hot, but not today. Today the ground is warming beneath my paws, and the breeze flowing through my fur makes chills ripple down my back to my tail. The ball of fire in the sky stops hiding behind the mountain that I live on, and my white fur starts to look golden. The morning dew glows in the sun, and the mountains look alive (sometimes I can hear them breathe). My tail wags in gratitude- it’s a great day.  

Every morning, I wake up, step outside my house (sometimes I don’t let the girls sleep with me in there- it's just too comfy and I need it all to myself) and do a big stretch. Then, I go over to Athena, Fang, and Saphira, and sniff them “good morning.” Fang is grumpy this morning, so she just snapped at me, but that’s nothing new.  

Trotting over to the door, and peering through the invisible boundary, I see my human sleeping in her bed- body spread out and bent in a weird position. How can she sleep like that? Humans are weird. I mean, just look at the weird tufts of hair in random places all over their body... Not even the weird furry creatures with the twitchy tails look that weird. 

My human still hasn’t stirred, and I have been waiting patiently for 10 long seconds. It is time to wake her up. I step back, sit on my haunches, and close my eyes as I let out a loud, excited  

“AWOOOO!”  

I look back at my human, and she sits up in her bed, and rubs her eyes while smiling at me. We both stand, and I can't contain my excitement! Human is coming, human is coming! My whole body wiggles as she opens the door and steps out.  

“Good morning, Kronos! Are you a good boy.” 

My body wiggles faster, and I let out a little whine to tell her that yes, I am the goodest boy.  

“Aweee you're so cute! I love you my baby Kro! Are you ready to go run?”  

Yes! Yes! Yes! I am so ready to run! Right now! 

I let out an even louder “AWOOOOOOO!” 

“Okay, okay! I’ll hurry up!”  

My human came out a long time later. I had enough time to go pee, annoy the girls, and find my favorite ball to take with me. We usually run to what my human calls a “waterfall”, where she yells at us if we go pee. She says it is “sacred” ... Whatever! Floof her! I need to mark my territory, and if she doesn’t understand that, then it’s her fault.  

The girls, my human, and I started the run to the waterfall. We go along the road for a while, and I enjoy the feeling of my paws eating up the ground and the wind pushing my ears flat against my head as I chase a furry fast thing that I saw in a bush. My tongue tasted the rubber of my favorite red ball while I gnawed on it in defeat. The floofy thing from the bush got away. By now I was way ahead of my human, and I could hear her calling me and Athena.  

I saw Athena to my right- I guess she saw the floofy thing too. She is not allowed to be bad- only I can be bad! I barked at her, and grabbed her by the collar, then dragged her back to my human. Human thinks that Athena is the bad one, and I just go after Athena to bring her back. I like this idea... but I also like chasing floofy things.  

We continue up to the waterfall. All the different smells invading my nose, making me sniff them out. Sometimes the smells tell me that I need to mark that spot, sometimes they tell me that no one has been up here except for us, and sometimes they say that there has been a big floof, or that there is a little floof. 

I sniff at a weird smell that I have smelled a few times before, and my hair stood up on its end. I saw the rocks shift, and I jumped up in fright! I scrambled away from the moving rocks as I recall the time that the moving rocks bit me. It hurt so bad, and it made me feel like my body was on fire. My human watched a movie where there was a sparkly immortal dude (I think his name was Edmond) and one of those immortal sparkly things bit his girlfriend, and she started screeching like there was no tomorrow. I felt like that when the moving rocks bit me. Maybe I am immortal too! And that would explain why the sun made my fur golden this morning! 

The bushes are green; their poky limbs reaching out and grabbing my fur as my paws thump on the ground above their roots. There are flowers that smell spicy, and flowers that smell sweet. There are huge bugs that jump around, and they smell like blue flowers. Maybe the bugs live in the flowers! 

I smell the water in the air! Human will be happier today because there is water. I do a little happy wiggle, and the ground races beneath me even faster. It takes me two big jumps to get up to see the waterfall. I wait very patiently for my slow human to get to the waterfall. It feels like forever as I listen to her slow footsteps get closer and closer. Ugh. She takes forever. I drop my ball,  

“Awo!” (hurry up)!  

My human laughs as she climbs up to where I am. She kisses me on the head and scratches behind my ear. She looks at the water gushing out from the rocks, and she does a little happy dance. I do a little wiggle too... seeing her happy makes me happy! 

We run over to the waterfall, and she throws my ball all the way up into the water, and I race to catch it as it falls into the pool at the base of the falls. I grab my ball, and run back over to her.  

We walk up to the water, and I lie down in it as she lies down on the stabby rocks. I enjoy the feeling of the cool water in my fur. I see a kaleidoscope of colors as I close my eyes into the sun and feel my heart slow down. My skin tingles, and my fur waves in the ripples that the falling water creates. I open my eyes and I see my fur glowing a bright blue color, and the water of the falls glowing as bright as a blue glowstick. My mouth hangs open in surprise, tongue falling out and my ball splashing into the now glowing water. I see my human glowing too as she looks over at me with a shocked expression. The blue continues to glow brighter and brighter, until the rocks around us reflect the unearthly blue glow. We watch the blue growing brighter until our eyes cannot bear it and close.  

I open my eyes when everything finally dims around me, and the first thing I see is a field full of balls of all different shapes and sizes. I look at my human, and she is looking at me in surprise. Her skin is still glowing a blue color, and she has iridescent blue wings sprouting from her back. I see Fang and Athena and Saphira running through the field chasing little floofy things, and I see a small rock cabin in the middle of the field. My whole-body wiggles as my tail wags and my brain finally processes the perfect moment; endless balls, my friends, and my human!
