Virginia Coast - Island Change

2002-2021

Here imagery from the Virginia Base Mapping Project ( https://vginmaps.vdem.virginia.gov/arcgis/rest/services/VBMP_Imagery)   shows changes on the barrier islands on the Virginia Coast of the Delmarva Peninsula. Move the slider to the LEFT to see 2002 and to the RIGHT to see 2021.

Cobb Island

Cobb Island has changed a lot between 2002 and 2021 with a large portion of the island lost to erosion

Hog Island

Northern Hog Island has been shrinking, but the south is growing

Wreck Island

Wreck Island has narrowed and shifted to the south

Ship Shoal/Godwin/Mytle/Mink Islands

Myrtle Island has been disappearing, but Ship Shoal to the north has grown
