African American density population (U.S)

Are African Americans less likely to move to be able to move to Surburban areas?

Hypothesis: Urban demographics are more likely to have increased percentage of African Americans in the past 20 years.

There is a significant relationship between U.S. population density within counties and percentage of African American population density in respect to the same counties. Over the past 20 years Caucasian Americans have moved to more suburban areas and left their black in densely populated areas.

Relevant- Andre m. Perry states in the Brookings article that there are migration patterns in the past 50 years of African Americans that have caused their populations to rise in places that haven't historically been African American Communities. Over time African Americans have been limited in their ability to move to suburbs due to financial stability. If we look at moving out of cities towards suburbs as an indicator of well-being we can determine if there is a skewed quality of life standard based on race.

Related- These maps give an example of the way culture shapes Geography. People decide to move to different places and because of culture and race. Certain histories shape interactions and movement of people. For example, the south is African American dense everywhere due to the history and culture that was built there. By Graves' definition the lowland south is a folk culture hearth that has its own history and culture that effects how they act in that region. White flight is a phenomenon that occurs when Caucasian Americans leave urban areas when black citizens begin to move in. Often times this white flight causes a drop in resources available in that community. The drop of resources causes the amenities in a city to be less optimal and create funding issues. These funding issues are a problem when cities have infrastructure that was built to serve so many people.

Spatial- This map represents the current population of African Americans in the United States. When many of their ancestors entered the United States, they were brought to this region. Overtime the population and culture has diffused further into the rest of the country. Due to this history of slavery the average black citizens lack financial stability to move away from a city center. The amenities of a city are attractive to m

Congressional districts demographics

Testable- I will look at the demographics of congressional districts level across the entire United States in 2000 and compare that data to 2020. I will look at the population density over-time and compare the demographics. If the population density of African Americans goes up in smaller districts, (by land area) than this white flight exists. If the average African American population density stays the same or is lower than this phenomenon does not exist. Sorting by congressional district land area creates a fair system to determine population density. Due to the same number of citizens living within congressional districts, the only thing that should change is the actual layout of the districts. This data could be influenced by cracking and packing but should not be a huge difference because the population should be influenced by the district size.
