After talking with both locals and tourists visiting the ski areas in Little Cottonwood Canyon, it was clear that locals were overwhelmingly against the proposed gondola project, while tourists were overwhelmingly for the proposed gondola. We attributed this direct split in opinion to the fact that for someone visiting SLC simply to ski, having a gondola seems like a great solution to the traffic that is often present in the canyon. While on the other hand locals seem to be against the project because of the overall disruption to the ecosystem and expense of the project on taxpayers. Everyone we spoke to agrees that the current situation is not sufficient and there needs to be a change but there is vast disagreement on what the solution should be.
