The Mombasa–Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway(SGR) commonly known as Madaraka Express connects Mombasa City and Nairobi City.
SGR birthed new and high speed locomotives in comparison to the initial engines.

SGR has two operation schedules namely Express and Inter-County
This comprises of two non-stop 5-6 hour journeys from Nairobi-Mombasa and Vice-Versa with two departures of 15oohrs and 2200hrs respectively.
This is a commuter train to and from Nairobi station with a scheduled departure of 0800hrs from the two termini with stop-overs at various stations.
SGR CLASSES
First Class
This ticket costs KES.3000 from Nairobi to Mombasa. Passengers aboard this class enjoy maximum comfort and legroom. Services are also exemplary.
Economy
This ticket goes for KES 1000. It has a bi-directional seat configuration commonly know as "face-me".
The SGR traverses through two national parks namely Tsavo East and Tsavo West.
This offers the passengers an opportunity of first hand experience in viewing a variety of the wild animals available in the park not limited to the big five.
