Mission Creek / Mission Bay

Through the Waterfront Resilience Progra m the Port is examining seismic and flood risk across the Port’s 7.5 mile jurisdiction. This story map series presents community-identified priorities and potential flooding and earthquake risks for the Mission Creek / Mission Bay geography.
This geography covers the Central Waterfront of San Francisco from Pier 26 in the north to the former Potrero Power Plant in the south. The area includes Mission Creek and surrounding waterfront and some of its watershed, and includes regional destinations such as the San Francisco Giants ballpark, the Chase Center, and the UCSF Mission Bay Campus and Medical Center, as well as extensive housing and commercial buildings, some of which are in development phases.
The shoreline includes historic piers and the Mission Creek tidal inlet which has a houseboat community and is crossed by drawbridges and transportation assets. This area also includes important city and regional infrastructure, including the Caltrain 4th and King Station and railyards, future California High Speed Rail alignment, the Bay Bridge touchdown, PG&E substation, the SFPUC’s Channel Force Main, the Port’s main maintenance facility, the T-Third Muni Line, and a planned new Mission Bay Ferry Terminal.
San Francisco's shoreline is incredibly complex in terms of its engineering and design, as well as its character, culture, businesses, and residents. To capture these unique differences, each geography is subdivided into five subareas.
