A complex of small seasonal ponds in the low floodplains between Furnace Run and Shirley Run.

North Pond

This quarry pond covers a slightly larger area in the northeast corner of Furnace Run Park. It is surrounded by gradually to gently sloping shorelines and open gently sloping meadows.

Water Easement

A municipal water line was installed in a 20' wide easement that parallels Lindsay Lot Road through the site. The North Pond is visible to the right.,

Open Fields and Meadows

Open fields cover nearly one third of the Furnace Run Park acreage between the large and small farmhouses. South Mountain looms to the left.

Furnace Run

Furnace Run is a seasonal waterbody that becomes an intermittent stream as passes through the park site.

Small Farmhouse

Near the center of Furnace Run Park is a second 1-1/2 story farmhouse. Surrounded by a small lawn and meadows. The house has electric and municipal water services.

Small Farm Pond

A small pond near the small farmhouse and adjacent meadows, this waterbody is fitted with a dry hydrant for local fire protection.

South Pond

Near Michaux State Forest and surrounded by steep slopes the former gravel pit creates a deep crater lake.

North Leg

Furnace Run passes through the north leg which contains more mature forest lands approaching Michaux State Forest. This portion of the park land makes a connection to the closed portion of Lindsay Lot Road at it enters the state forest.

South Leg

Emergent woodlands cover the south leg which leads towards a precipitous slope in Michaux State Forest. The area was likely deforested to support charcoal making.

Dry Pit Area

A bowl was created by the mining activity in the western corner of Furnace Run park creating a large level area surround by a steep slope.
