Presented by the Office of Environmental Management
About Us
The Office of Environmental Management
The role of the FDOT Office of Environmental Management is to...
Develop and ensure the implementation of quality environmental policies, procedures, and practices in the development of transportation improvements through each of the Department's core processes: plan, produce, deliver, and maintain.
Establish policy and procedures to ensure implementation of environmental programs and Department initiatives.
Coordinate with federal and state environmental resource and regulatory agencies in the development and implementation of environmental processes and procedures consistent with environmental laws and regulations to assist the Department in achieving its mission.
FDOT and Archaeology?
That's right, FDOT does archaeology!
Our office ensures that cultural resources like archaeological sites and historic districts, structures, and bridges are treated according to the many state and federal historic preservation laws.
In the field, we conduct testing to identify new sites and further excavation to record sites our projects may interact with.
Our Collections and Curation Initiative
What about all those artifacts?
Our Collections and Curation Initiative, started in 2019, aims to centralize all FDOT collections and create a comprehensive digital artifact database.
Since starting our initiative, we have seen just how amazing our collections are, and now, you can too!
The History's Mysteries project is here to share all of these wonderful pieces of Florida's history.
