WWI Woman in Montana
Women During and Serving in WWI

Many amazing women served in WWI. One woman who gave her everything to the fight was Susie Lee Welborn. Susie was born on May 6, 1893 and was raised in Billings, Montana. At a young age, she decided that she wanted to serve her country. During the time of World War I, she joined the American Expeditionary Forces overseas as an army nurse and served at Base Hospital 53 in Langres, France. After the war, she returned home and dedicated her life to nursing. She never had any children. She died on August 17 1996 in Billings. Susie passed away peacefully, at the age of 103 and was buried in the Billings Cemetery. When she died Susie was the last surviving member of the US Army nurses in the Expeditionary Forces of WWI. For any officer who had been through and seen war, this was a very calm and peaceful way to go.
