Overview
On August 16, 2020, a fire broke out east of Salinas. The fire burned for 19 days and was fully contained on September 4, 2020, burning more than 48,000 acres and damaging or destroying dozens of structures. On August 18, 2020, fires broke out in Carmel Valley and in Monterey Ranger District of the Los Padres National Forest. The Carmel Fire burned nearly 7,000 acres and was contained on September 4, 2020. The Dolan fire has burned more than 128,000 acres in Los Padres National Forest, as well as portions of the Ventana Wilderness Area, and is 98% contained, but full containment is not expected until there is sufficient rainfall.
EPA completed the household hazardous waste cleanup on November 14, 2020.
