Home - About the Project

The City of Buena Park is working on its first city-wide Active Transportation Plan (ATP). Through funding provided by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), the City will develop an ATP that creates an enjoyable and comfortable walking and biking experience for all traveling throughout Buena Park. The ATP will evaluate current bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and identify future improvement projects based on feedback from you and the community!

What are the goals of the Active Transportation Plan?

  • Safety: Improve infrastructure to increase bicycle and pedestrian safety.
  • Connectivity: Identify and address gaps within the City’s transportation network by creating well-connected bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
  • Mobility Access: Create better bicyclist and pedestrian access to transit, jobs, schools, parks, and other essential services.

Where is the ATP now?

Current Conditions

The current condition of the Buena Park Active Transportation Network is comprised of isolated corridors primarily in the north of the City. Planning for a more comprehensive and equitable Active Transportation Network would enable community members to access local and regional destinations, including transit hubs, by walking and biking.

The existing bicycle facilities for the City of Buena Park and surrounding area are shown on this map, as well as OCTA's transit stops. There is limited access to schools riding on dedicated bicycle lanes or trails.

The majority of arterial streets in Buena Park operate at 40-45 miles per hour. Many of the city's shopping areas, schools and parks are also adjacent to these arterials, which also have high volumes of traffic as well.

Feedback & Surveys

A critical aspect of the ATP is to collect community feedback and comments on safety: what they would like to see the ATP achieve, locations or types of improvements that are important to them, learning how residents and visitors walk bike, and roll in Buena Park. Take the Active Transportation Survey to tell us about yourself and how you get around Buena Park. You can also provide comments on specific locations using the Interactive Mapping Survey; just click on the map to get started! Be sure to share your input by Thursday, December 14th, 2023!
