When warm, humid air and cold, dry air mix, a tornado is created. Thunderstorms are typically produced when the colder air is forced over the warmer air. An updraft results when warm air rise through colder air. Winds that suddenly change in direction or speed will cause the updraft to begin spinning, thus forming a tornado.
