Piney Run Reservoir
Carroll County, MD

Piney Run Reservoir is a 300-acre lake with a max depth of 50 feet located in Eldersburg, Md, and is managed by Carroll County government. Piney Run Park has two boat ramps (gas powered motors prohibited), floating piers, and boat rentals available. Artificial structures have been placed near fishing platforms to improve habitat, and in summer and fall months, the lake has an abundance of submerged and emergent vegetation.
Piney Run Reservoir supports an incredible fishery, arguably one of the best in the state. Quality size largemouth bass, redear sunfish, bluegill, yellow perch, channel catfish, and black crappie are common. The lake also affords the possibility to catch landlocked striped bass which have had limited natural reproduction. Tiger muskie were first stocked in 1996 and have now reached the legal size of 36 inches. Rainbow trout are also stocked annually in Piney Run Reservoir, as part of our popular Put-and-Take trout fishery. Fishing statistics summarized by gamefish species from recent Maryland DNR Freshwater Fisheries surveys can be found in the Impoundment Fishing Stats tool below.
