Healthcare Leadership: Prioritizing the Well-being of Healthcare Professionals Symposium
The Healthcare Leadership: Prioritizing the Well-being of Healthcare Professionals Symposium, organized by Reynolds Community College and the VCU Humphrey Fellowship Program, is an event focused on discussing the importance of prioritizing the mental and physical well-being of healthcare professionals. The symposium will provide a platform for healthcare leaders to exchange ideas, insights, and best practices to create a healthier and more sustainable healthcare system. It aims to address the challenges faced by healthcare professionals, including stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue, and explore solutions to improve their overall well-being. The symposium will also highlight the critical role of healthcare leaders in promoting a culture of well-being and resilience among healthcare teams. Attendees will gain insights into how to foster a supportive workplace culture and promote self-care and resilience among healthcare staff from national and international perspective.

Keynote Speakers
Laura McClelland, PhD
Dr. Laura McClelland is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Health Services Organization and Research (HSOR) Ph.D. program at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Department of Health Administration. She received her Ph.D. in Organization & Management from Emory University and two Bachelor of Science degrees from Villanova University, in Management and Economics, respectively. Before entering academia, she was a management consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM. She is a highly regarded expert in health care management, leadership, workplace compassion, employee well-being, and patient experience. Her research has been published in top health services and social science journals and cited in popular press outlets such as CNN and Kaiser Health News. She has served on the National Academy of Medicine Scientific Advisory Panel on the Evidence for Patient and Family-Centered Care. In addition, she has received multiple national and international awards for teaching excellence.
Jalana McCasland
Jalana McCasland is the Vice President of Physician Practice Management at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, VA. She has built an extensive healthcare career spanning over 20 years, primarily in ambulatory settings, focusing on practice management, call centers, telemedicine, managed care contracting, and physician and regional outreach. In addition to her leadership role at the hospital, Jalana holds multiple leadership positions outside of work. She is chairing two committees: the Virginia Beach Social Services Advisory Committee and Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) for Women in Healthcare, Inc. Moreover, she is a fellow at the American College of Healthcare Executives. Jalana has a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Government from the University of Texas at Dallas., In addition, she holds two master's degrees: one in Public Administration from the University of Texas at Tyler and the other in Education and Human Development from George Washington University. Her unwavering passion for continuous learning led her to pursue a doctoral degree in Strategic Leadership at Regent University, where she is currently enrolled as a student.

Corey Feist, JD, MBA
Corey Feist, a seasoned healthcare executive with over two decades of experience, is also the Co-Founder of the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation. Previously, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of the University of Virginia Physicians Group, which is comprised of over 1200 physicians and advanced practice providers. Corey has authored numerous publications emphasizing the need to support the well-being of healthcare workers. He has been invited to share his expertise as a keynote speaker, panelist, and moderator, as well as providing formal testimony in the United States Congress. Apart from his executive roles, Mr. Feist holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the University of Virginia’s (UVA) Darden School of Business and serves as the Chair of the Board of the Charlottesville Free Clinic. He earned his Master's degree in Business Administration from the UVA Darden School of Business, his Juris Doctorate from Penn State Dickinson School of Law, and his Bachelor's degree from Hamilton College.
Heba M. Metwally
Heba Metwally is a current Humphrey Fellow at Emory University, bringing with her a wealth of experience in clinical pharmacy. She holds a bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from Cairo University and has completed the prestigious Egyptian fellowship of clinical pharmacy. Heba is a senior clinical pharmacist who co-leads the Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs and is a practice instructor with the Ministry of Health in Egypt. Her responsibilities include training over 5,500 pharmacists from 20 governorates nationwide. In 2019, Heba joined Egypt's healthcare authority as a clinical pharmacy supervisor., She developed initiatives to implement stewardship programs, medication error, and adverse drug reaction reporting systems at primary care facilities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Heba held various roles at the Egypt Healthcare Authority. She monitored and evaluated vaccination campaigns, clinical and operational KPIs of healthcare facilities, and hospitals' mortality rates from communicable and non-communicable diseases. In addition, she performed clinical audit activities to ensure adherence to clinical and operational guidelines in three Egyptian governorates.
Nancy Boykin MBA, RN, CMSRN, CENP
Nancy Boykin is the Chief Nursing Officer at HCA’s Retreat Doctors' Hospital. With over 25 years of experience in nursing, Nancy began her career at HCA Henrico Doctors’ Hospital and has since developed a clinical background in Medical/Surgical, Oncology, Telemetry, and Intensive Care Units. Ms. Boykin’s leadership journey started as a Nursing Director for several Henrico Doctors' Hospital units. Corporate HCA recognized her exceptional leadership skills in 2015 when she was selected to be part of the Chief Nursing Office’s Executive Development Program. As part of her growth trajectory, Nancy has held various leadership positions, including Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Chippenham Hospital, Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Henrico Doctors' Hospital, and now Chief Nursing Officer at Retreat Doctors' Hospital. In addition, she is a professional member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). She serves on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Organization of Nurse Executives and Leaders (VONEL). Nancy holds an Associate of Applied Science from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Currently, she is enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing Practice, which is expected to be completed in May 2023.
