GULB Birthday Bash

This Summer GULB turned 10! We hosted events with our local partners to highlight the community that GULB has helped grow.

Follow along to learn more about how we got started, and the programs we have today!  Click here to head to our full website.

The Green Urban Lunch Box began began with an idea that people who live in urban environments can grow their own food in unusual places. A bus was purchased and converted to a greenhouse, and the rest is history.

Before we show you where GULB is going, take a trip down memory lane!

Watch this video of our founder, Shawn Peterson, talk about about our infamous school bus all the way back in 2012!

… And from one mobile greenhouse grew all the programs and we know and love today.

Back-Farms

Back-Farms  connects volunteer Garden Apprentices with senior citizens to build, cultivate, and maintain organic gardens in their backyards, providing a hands-on educational experience, connections, and fresh, local produce to all participants.

We currently have 40 gardens that provide food for all the seniors in the program, and for our  Free Farm Stands  for seniors at local senior centers!

Back-Farms Garden

Come and see for yourself!  Mary, one of our senior citizen participants, will be hosting a garden party. Join us at Mary's Back-Farms Garden Party for snacks, a garden tour, and live music. Not to mention good company!

FruitShare

Our  FruitShare program  partners with fruit tree homeowners and community volunteers to harvest and distribute fruit that would have otherwise gone to waste.

Mountain West Hard Cider

For the past 6 seasons GULB and  Mountain West Hard Cider  have teamed up to create a hyper-local hard cider from apples harvested in the FruitShare program

Thanks to Mountain West, we have been able to rescue over 30,000lbs of apples and turn them into 1,800 gallons of cider!

Cheers to 10 years! Come celebrate GULB's 10 year birthday and this partnership that perfectly represents what our FruitShare program is all about!  Stop in for a glass of cider and mingle with our FruitShare community. First 50 people get a FREE pour of GULB Hard Apple Cider

*Must be 21 or older to attend.*

Cheers to 10 Years at Mountain West Hard Cider

Small Farm Initiative

The  Small Farm Initiative  is a farmer training program that teaches people how to farm in urban spaces using holistic growing methods.

To learn on our farm, we offer  Farm Apprenticeships  and  Farm Stewardships . As part of these learning opportunities, we facilitate and offer a  Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)  program. The CSA provides real business training for aspiring farmers and financial support for our programming.

Patagonia Outlet

CSA’s are offered to community members who are interested in eating local, sustainably grown food while having an interest in supporting our mission.

GULB is a proud community partner of Patagonia, and their  Salt Lake City Outlet  location is one of our CSA hubs!

Stop by to learn about our farmer training program as well as GULB's other programming and peruse the outlet store!
