Housing Mobility and Accessibility Assessment
Cross-Examination of Household Income and Housing Costs
Introduction
The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) published the Built Environment Assessment , the second project of the PLAN4Health - Miami Valley Initiative, in October 2022. The purpose of the assessment was to evaluate the man-made physical environment conditions that influence active living. As part of the assessment, an Active Community Index (ACI) was developed to establish a comprehensive baseline of how amenable an area's built environment is to active living.
Subsequently, an additional data analysis was conducted to review the ACI findings through an equity lens. The analysis was primarily to examine if, and to what degree, disparities exist amongst different population groups residing in the developed area (see the map on the right for the developed areas in the Region). In addition, a separate examination on the topic of housing mobility and accessibility was conducted to provide additional context.
The Built Environment Assessment Equity Analysis highlights major findings, but the complete evaluation results from the housing mobility and accessibility assessment are shared here. The two major factors that play a significant role in deciding where a household may decide to live are their income and housing costs. As such, the housing mobility and accessibility assessment covers an in-depth review of household income and housing costs and their relationship.
