Exploring StoryMaps

Student Projects

The most powerful way of using StoryMaps is for students to make their OWN StoryMaps.

Why?

  • Students tell their own story, from their perspective
  • Students become content creators
  • Students use multiple means of communication
  • Different styles of writing
  • Visual communication is emphasized, which can be helpful for ELL students
  • Work can easily be shared with family, friends and other audiences
  • StoryMaps lend themselves to student choice projects
  • StoryMaps encourage creativity

In Higher Education

I've been using StoryMaps with students at the University of Minnesota for five years. We've seen StoryMaps used in courses across the UMN, from History and Geography to Forest Management and Portuguese. Check out our  StoryMaps instructor site  for examples and ideas.

In SPPS

Stephanie McCleery has been using StoryMaps as student projects!
