About

Hopcott Farms sits in the fertile growing region of the Fraser Valley, where the Pitt River flows into the Fraser River. Our story started in 1932, when our founders, Fred and Jane Hopcott, bought this piece of land that had never been farmed and converted it into a dairy farm. The dairy farm they built in 1934 still stands today. Over the years, our farm switched from dairy cows to beef cattle. To accommodate this change, new buildings were constructed, and the land was converted to corn fields to produce silage for the cattle.

Over time, we needed to diversify, so we converted 70 acres of cornfields into cranberry bogs. We kept growing and evolving, and in 2000, we created an agri-tourism destination called Meadow Maze. Visitors can explore our 14-acre corn maze, and take in our rides, petting zoo, corn cannons, party rooms, pig races, and Harvest Time barn.

Today, our family tradition continues, and we remain strong advocates of eating local, supporting fellow farmers, and strengthening community relations. In 2006, we opened Hopcott Premium Meats, a 9,000-square-foot shop with a heritage feel, where we sell our meats, local produce, and dairy. It was such a success that a few years later, we doubled the size of the shop, adding a commercial kitchen, bistro, and outdoor patio.

What Our Farm Teaches Visitors about Agriculture, Food, and the Environment

Where else can you learn about beef and cranberries in one place? Visitors to our farm can see firsthand how our animals are raised, processed, and broken down into different cuts of meat. Our butchers are full of knowledge and cooking tips that they are happy to share with you. At Hopcott Farms, you can also learn about the rich history of cranberries in North America, and the unique way that they are grown and processed.

The Most Unique Part of Our Farm

We are a one-stop source for natural meats, local produce, and specialty grocery items for food lovers and food enthusiasts of all ages living in the Lower Mainland. Hopcott Farms is a diverse and vertically integrated operation, which means we have direct ownership of suppliers, distributors, and retail locations to keep greater control over the supply chain. We rely on ourselves to produce and sell our products, and that helps to make us more efficient. We raise beef cattle and operate an on-site abattoir, boutique specialty butcher and market, and a bistro, where we host weddings and events, and we cater through our commercial kitchen. We grow cranberries — one of the most sustainable and intensively grown fruits in North America — for Ocean Spray, and we sell hay that we grow and manure produced by our cattle. Our business is modelled on a circular economy, where we make the most of the material resources available to us and apply the three basic principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Producing quality products and the importance of supporting our community and other local farmers is part of our family’s farming history. Everything that we do on our farm reflects our passion for farming and producing quality products. We raise our beef without any added hormones, steroids, or antibiotics. We feed our animals a high-roughage diet of non-GMO corn and grass grain that we grow ourselves. We dry-age our beef between 21 and 28 days for maximum tenderness and flavour.

We also put extra effort into how we cut our meat and present it to customers wrapped in traditional brown paper. Our dedication to support “all things local” is evident throughout our store, from the chicken and pork we source to the breads, produce, and dairy that we sell. We only carry consistently fresh products and place great importance on excellent customer service.

The Most Rewarding Part of Operating Our Farm

Being able to support over 70 team members, along with their families, who help us produce and sell our products, is one our greatest rewards. The community also rewards us with their trust and appreciation of our products that they bring into their homes to share with their families.
