Brampton Mobility Plan
About
The City of Brampton is launching a study to update the current 2015 Brampton Transportation Master Plan into a new Mobility Plan that will guide the City’s investment in transportation to achieve the Brampton 2040 Vision to be: “a mosaic of safe, integrated transportation choices and new modes, contributing to civic sustainability, and emphasizing walking, cycling, and transit.”
What is a Mobility Plan?
A Mobility Plan, also known as Transportation Master Plan (TMP), is a long range plan that directs the development of transportation infrastructure, services, and operational practices. These plans help municipalities identify and address what their community needs for active transportation, transit, freight movement, transportation safety and transportation sustainability. Brampton’s current Transportation Master Plan was completed in 2015.
Why is an update needed?
Transportation or Mobility Plans are living documents that must be reviewed every five years or so to reflect updated City, Regional, and Provincial plans and policies, revised growth forecasts, and best practices. The current TMP was endorsed by Brampton Council in 2015.
In the seven years since the completion of the 2015 TMP , Council has adopted several key strategic decisions that has changed the direction of how Brampton’s future transportation system should be developed:
- Council’s declaration of a climate emergency in 2019 and the need for a more sustainable transportation system.
- Completion and endorsement of Brampton 2040 Vision that sets a vision to have safe, integrated transportation choices and new modes, contributing to civic sustainability, and emphasizing walking, cycling, and transit.
- The City’s official plan, the Brampton Plan (endorsed in 2023), that prioritizes increasing connectivity, sustainable mobility, and complete streets.
