We are Delaware Ag.
Meet the faces of our food system.
Who is Delaware Ag?
For many people, the word "agriculture" conjures a pastoral picture of farmers and their land, lush and green with crops or peppered with lowing cattle. Yes, farmers are at the heart of agriculture. But there are many other people doing important work to ensure that farmers, and the communities they feed, thrive.

Have you ever wondered how farmers protect their crops from pests and disease? Who helps farmers make decisions about how to steward their land and run a profitable business? Who makes sure our food is safe to eat? Science, technology, and education are a big part of agriculture, whether it be a large poultry operation or a small-scale urban farm.

All of those resources and people working together to feed a population create something called a food system.
A food system, whether local, regional, or global, is defined by the DE/MD Food System Project as "all the varied processes and infrastructure involved in feeding a population: growing, harvesting, processing, packaging, transporting, marketing, consumption, distribution, and disposal of food and food-related items."

Because Delaware's food system is so complex, there are many individuals that must work together to ensure that farmers have the resources they need and that food is produced and distributed safely and responsibly to all Delawareans, and even people in other states.
This storymap was designed by fellows in LEADelaware Class VI to share the stories of these individuals and what they do to inspire the next generation of food system leaders in Delaware.
