Background Information - MaineDOT Public Involvement
This site gives background information regarding MaineDOT's Public Involvement Process.
Public Involvement Plan
The MaineDOT Public Involvement Plan outlines the public involvement process that MaineDOT uses to engage a broad array of stakeholders in all aspects of MaineDOT including statewide transportation planning, project design and development, and construction and maintenance activities. Timely public involvement and engagement are important factors in allowing us to make better transportation decisions. Click below to see the plan.
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) has an additional public involvement process in order to meet its requirements. Additional information regarding that process and any projects available for review and comment under those requirements can be found at the MaineDOT NEPA Public Involvement website.
Project Development Process
The link to the document below shows the typical process for a Capital Improvement Project. These are primarily the projects that have the types of meetings shown on this site and are typically the larger projects developed and designed by the MaineDOT Bureau of Project Development. The size, complexity, and scope of work determine the level of public involvement for each project. Larger projects typically have a Preliminary and Formal Public Meetings to inform the public and obtain input.
Civil Rights
MaineDOT's Civil Rights Office is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal anti-discrimination, EEO/AA, and labor requirements on all federally funded projects.
In accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other authorities, the MaineDOT is committed to ensuring that the fundamental principles of equal opportunity are upheld in all decisions involving our employees and contractors/consultants, and to ensuring that the public at large is afforded access to our programs and services. To that end, no person shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any MaineDOT program or activity on the grounds of race, color, or national origin.
Please click below to see the brochure that explains your rights regarding compliance with Title VI. This also explains how a complaint can be made regarding any form of discrimination.
Accessibility/Accommodations
Allowing all members of the public access to our meetings and the ability to comment and engage with us is an important aspect of our public involvement. This document explains meeting accessibility and the reasonable accommodations that we can provide.
Demographic Survey
The information obtained from our optional demographic survey will help MaineDOT better understand who we are reaching with our engagement efforts. Your valuable input will help us improve our outreach to help allow all Maine residents to provide valuable feedback on our projects. All of the current projects have a link to the survey, or you can access it directly by clicking the button below.
Right of Way Process
The Brochure and Video below give a general overview of the Right of Way process regarding MaineDOT projects and your property rights.
