Nine Favorite Trees V.3

We asked residents, staff, and board of the Panorama retirement community in Lacey, WA, to nominate trees that have special meaning for them

Introduction

The trees that were nominated are among the 1,500 varieties of trees and shrubs located on the Panorama campus. The nine trees or groves that we selected among the nominations all have special meaning in different, inspiring, and delightful ways. We have presented the results of the project by way of an interactive map, and nine short videos. Videos are first, then scroll to or use the navigation bar to see the map of tree locations.

The Charter for Trees

We came upon the charter for trees in a park in Wales, Great Britain. The sentiments are perfect for our project and remind us of the importance of trees.

The Charter for Trees, Woods and People sets out the principles for a society in which people and trees can stand stronger together. The Tree Charter was launched in Lincoln Castle on 6 November 2017; the 800th anniversary of the 1217 Charter of the Forest. The Tree Charter is rooted in more than 60,000 ‘tree stories’ gathered from people of all backgrounds across the UK.

The video project was a collaboration between Deb Ross and Brian Hovis. This storymap is dedicated to Barbara Van Etten who loved trees.
