Chol Gala Mosque
Location: Shusha city, Shusha
Condition Assessment
Status: Minor damage
Located in the city of Shusha, the Chol Gala Mosque appears on the list of heritage sites of the Republic of Azerbaijan (inventory No. 5103) as an architectural monument dating to the 18th century. 1
Comparison of Hexagon satellite imagery dated July 1980 2 with satellite imagery captured in September 2002 3 shows that during this period the mosque sustained minor damage. After the modern roof was removed and the traditional domed roof exposed, the northern end of the building was damaged. Judging by a comparison of Soviet-era photographs ( a , b ) and an image captured in September 2021 (see Supplementary Images), it is clear that, at the very least, the eastern facade of the building has been impacted.
