Deforestation Of the Amazon
What happens to our planet if the Amazon disappears?
Deforestation is caused by the overharvesting of trees, causing many issues that may endanger the beautiful world we live in. This issue has been active since the 1960s when brazil began harvesting way too many trees. The very high demand for products produced from trees in the amazon has raised, the burning of rainforests to produce farms kills many of the local wildlife, as well as the trees and rare flora that live there.
This event occurs in the brazillian area of the Amazon Rainforest. People who are looking for jobs are burning much of the rainforest for space for farms. Brazil does seem to be slowing the process of it, but it still happens. Indigious tribes are being affected as their homes burn and are cut right in front of them. People around the world would be affected as well, because more that 20% of our oxygen comes from the amazon, which if you cut down too many trees, carbon dioxide will be released. Animals living in the amazon are VERY diverse, and include about 10% of the earth's biodiversity.
Amazon deforestation has almost doubled this year. So far this year, an estimated 3,032 square miles have been destroyed. Deforestation is a big problem to the life living in those areas and the plant life living there as well. The human-caused devastation is all the more troubling given the region was struck by the worst forest-fires this decade, which torched through the Amazon in August. Scientists believe forest fires are linked to deforestation, people often clear timber then set the remains on fire to clear land for farming or ranching. Also the wild fires that get out of control have a huge effect on to amazon.
Deforestation intensifies warming in the amazon rainforest. There are Fires that have raged across the amazon have caught the world's attention. The widespread use of fire to clear the rainforest not only endangers its rich biodiversity, but also releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere contributing to global warming. Thompson and her colleagues found that deforestation has caused an overall increase of 0.5 degree Celsius in the Amazon between 1985 and 2017.
Economically, this event is terrible for the amazon, which has been in danger of going away since the 1960s. People demand more and more products from the amazon, like chocolate, and wood for building. These are a huge issue because overharvesting of the rainforests will occur, which will kill most of the rainforest. Solutions to this would reduce the amount of paper used, donate at least a little money to organizations which help people working to put an end to deforestation. If this were to continue, the amount of oxygen would decrease, animal diversity would go down 10%, many species would go extinct, people would suffer, and that area would be completely destroyed. In conclusion, the Amazon Rainforest must be saved, or else many horrible thing will happen to our planet.
