#BirdsTellUs about climate change. Now you can, too.

#YouTellUs

Climate change is the greatest challenge facing today's birds, threatening 389 North American bird species. Of course, a changing climate also presents a profound challenge for humans. None of us can ignore the effects: we see them around us everyday, everywhere. Audubon is collecting and sharing the stories of people experiencing the diverse impacts of the climate crisis. We hope you'll  share your stories with us .

"It took climbing a 14,000-foot peak in the Eastern Sierra to escape the smoke..."

Event Type: Wildfire

Location: Mt. Langley, CA

Description: We're all aware of the wildfires devastating California and the rest of the West each summer and fall. Even outside of areas that are burning, the dramatic effects of wildfires can be seen and felt. It took climbing a 14,000-foot peak, Mt. Langley, in the Eastern Sierra to escape the smoke from wildfires hundreds of miles away in Northern California. Air quality in the Owens Valley was poor starting in August and continuing into October, preventing thousands of tourists who visit the region each summer (for hiking, climbing, camping, etc.) from recreating safely and spending money that supports various local agencies and businesses.

"Arctic‐breeding shorebirds have experienced increased phenological mismatch..."

Event Type: Wildlife

Location: National Petroleum Reserve Alaska, AK

Description: During a long-term study, we found that Arctic‐breeding shorebirds have experienced increased phenological mismatch (i.e., chicks hatching after peak insect emergence) under earlier snowmelt conditions, resulting in reduced growth and survival of chicks.
