Summary

Launched in 2016, the Great Bay Archeological Survey (GBAS) is a community-engaged archaeological exploration of the early colonial era (ca. 1620-1750 AD) in the Great Bay Estuary, a unique ecosystem located in what is today New Hampshire and Maine. This StoryMap aims to share a bit of why we are doing GBAS, how we are doing it, and what stories we have unearthed along the way from fragments ordinary people living, much like we are today, through extraordinary times left behind hundreds of years ago.

Funding

GBAS is funded by the James H. and Claire Short Hayes Professor of the Humanities UNH Center for the Humanities, as well as, supported by an Andrew Carnegie Fellowship awarded to GBAS PI Dr. Meghan Howey.

Authors

Dr. Meghan Howey is the Principal Investigator of GBAS. She is a Professor in the University of New Hampshire's Anthropology Department and Earth Systems Research Center.

Dr. Shane Bradt provided StoryMap expertise for GBAS. He is a Professor at UNH's Departments of Geography and Biological Sciences, as well as, an Extension Specialist at UNH Cooperative Extension.
