Managing Wildfires with Satellite Data
NASA FIRMS has two independent platforms, FIRMS Global and FIRMS US/Canada . FIRMS Global was initially developed at the University of Maryland with funding from NASA Applied Sciences to provide wildfire data to firefighters and support staff worldwide. FIRMS US/Canada is a collaboration between NASA and the USDA Forest Service and provides data to support strategic wildland fire monitoring and response by the interagency fire management community and to inform the general public. Both FIRMS platforms are now part of NASA's Land, Atmosphere Near real-time Capability for EOS ( LANCE ).
FIRMS also provides the following:
- 24h, 48h and 7-day Active fire/hotspot downloads in CSV, KML and SHP format ( Global FIRMS ) ( US/Canada FIRMS )
- Fire Email Alerts
- Web Services ( Global FIRMS ) ( US/Canada FIRMS ) including:
- APIS - Application Programming Interface
- WFS - Feature Service
- WMS - Map Service
- Archive Download Tool (customized access to the full archive)
