UNCOVERING AYIGYA'S HIDDEN GEMS: FROM GROUND TO MAP.

Unveiling the Secrets of Ayigya's Past, Present, and Future.

INTRODUCTION

This story map takes you on a tour of Ayigya's most fascinating spots, from its vibrant markets to its serene landscapes. Ayigya is a dynamic and growing community with a unique landscape and developing infrastructure. Thoughtful urban planning is essential for optimizing land use, enhancing accessibility, and promoting sustainable growth.

Introduction of the work and orientation

This story map leverages GIS to showcase Ayigya’s roads, landmarks, and key features, providing valuable insights into its development and connectivity. Explore Ayigya through the power of mapping.

ORIENTATION

Before beginning the project, we attended an orientation session that introduced us to the objectives and importance of creating a base map for Ayigya.

Prof. Andam giving us what the project is about

During this briefing, we explored the role of GIS in urban planning, identified key elements to be mapped, and discussed the expected project outcomes.

The session gave us a clear understanding of our responsibilities, the tools we would be using, and how our work could support improved spatial planning and community development.

OFFICE WORK

Before going into the field, we conducted office-based preparations to establish a strong foundation for our mapping project. Using Google Maps, we analyzed Ayigya’s landscape, identified key landmarks, and selected appropriate control points for georeferencing.

Making maps

Additionally, we designed a detailed flight plan for data collection to ensure comprehensive and efficient coverage of the area. This preparatory work was crucial in guiding our field activities.

RECONNAISSANCE

Following our office preparations, we conducted a reconnaissance survey to confirm that the conditions observed on Google Maps aligned with the actual on-ground situation.

Reconnaissance

Establishing GCPs

During this field visit, we identified changes in the landscape that necessitated adjustments to our selected ground control points.

GPS SURVEY

GPS Observations

As part of our data collection process, we carried out a GPS survey to determine the coordinates of the ground control points. Using a high-precision GPS, we accurately recorded their locations to improve the overall accuracy of our work.

UAV SURVEY

To improve data accuracy and coverage, we carried out an unmanned aerial survey using a drone. This enabled us to capture high-resolution aerial imagery of Ayigya, offering detailed spatial insights into the landscape, infrastructure, and land use.

Georeferencing, Digitizing, and Geodatabase Creation Overview

After collecting spatial data, we conducted georeferencing to accurately align the aerial imagery and GPS points with real-world coordinates, ensuring precision in our base map. Next, we performed digitizing, extracting essential features such as roads, buildings, and landmarks from the imagery.

To efficiently store, manage, and analyze our mapped data, we developed a geodatabase, organizing the spatial information into structured layers. This process was crucial in creating a reliable and detailed base map of Ayigya to support future urban planning and development.

Attribute Data Collection Overview

Following the mapping of spatial features, we carried out attribute data collection to incorporate descriptive details into the mapped elements. This process involved recording information such as road names, building types, land use, and other key characteristics.

By integrating this data into our geodatabase, we enhanced the functionality of the base map, making it a valuable resource for analysis, planning, and decision-making in Ayigya.

Map Production Overview

After gathering both spatial and attribute data, we moved on to the map production phase. Utilizing GIS software, we integrated, processed, and visually represented the mapped features, ensuring both clarity and accuracy.

CONCLUSION

The development of Ayigya’s base map was a thorough process that required careful planning, data collection, and analysis. From the initial orientation to the final map production, each stage was essential in ensuring accuracy and reliability.

By leveraging GIS, GPS surveys, aerial mapping, and attribute data collection, we created a detailed and well-structured representation of Ayigya. This base map serves as a crucial resource for urban planning, infrastructure development, and informed decision-making, supporting the community’s sustainable growth.
