Follow along to see progress made on Acton's Climate Action Plan.
ABOUT
In 2022, the Town of Acton published its Climate Action Plan (CAP)-- a detailed and strategic framework for measuring and planning to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also building community resilience to prepare for climate change impacts. To reach the town's goal of net-zero by 2030 and maximize co-benefits, the CAP divides strategies and actions into seven categories: Buildings & Housing, Energy, Mobility, Nature-Based Solutions, Solid Waste, Resilience, and Education & Outreach.
Acton's first Greenhouse Gas Inventory was completed for the year 2017 and was released in 2019. The Town recently updated its inventory showing a 19% decrease in emissions across all sectors. Both inventories were completed using the ICLEI methodology. Stationary emissions have increased by 4% since the 2019 report, demonstrating the importance of taking actions to reduce energy use and shift away from fossil fuels in our buildings. The transportation sector showed the largest decrease in emissions, a whopping 35%, largely due to an increase in electric vehicle adoption!
