25) SHALLBERG & HOWARD FLATS
SHALLBERG & HOWARD FLATS
1202 4TH AVE
Built in 1911, this two-story brick Italianate anchor block building was originally an auto garage with flats above owned by Robert Shallberg and Quincy Howard. As ownership of the building changed, many of the upper windows were altered and some of the ground floor windows enclosed with glass blocks. Fortunately it has retained its dropped metal cornice supported by paired brackets, an important architectural component of the building.
Records list Moline Plow Company Garage at this address in the 1920’s followed by New Idea Spreader Company, Lofgren Distributing Company, Audio Dimensions Inc., Tempo Marine & Sport and O’Rourke Brothers in the 1990’s.
