 As 11th grade students, at Our Lady School of the Maronite Sisters of the Holy Family Sahel Alma, we have partnered with Esri Lebanon’s technical team and chose to achieve our community service project titled “Sports Group”. The goal of our project is to promote the significant benefits of sports and its importance on each individual.

Successful basketball Lebanese players

Wael Arakji

Wael plays for Lebanese Basketball League club Al Riyadi Club Beirut and the Lebanon national team. He is nicknamed "the Great". At the club level, he also played in the Chinese Basketball Association and participated in the NBA Summer League for the Dallas Mavericks in 2019 .For the national team, Arakji won the MVP award at the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup, where Lebanon finished runners-up.

Rony Fahed

Rony Fahed is a Lebanese professional basketball player. He was also a member of the Lebanon national basketball team that participated in the 2002 FIBA World Championship in Indianapolis in the United States, in the 2006 FIBA World Championship which took place in Japan, and in the 2010 FIBA World Championship held in Turkey. Fahed also participated at the 2007 FIBA Asia Championship, 2009 FIBA Asia Championship and other international tournaments

Rony Seikaly

Ronald Fred Seikaly , born May 10, 1965, is a Lebanese and American former professional  basketball  player. Seikaly was one of the first internationally born players to make an impact on American basketball.

Seikaly was taken by the Miami Heat with the 9th pick in the first round of the 1988 NBA draft. As well as being the franchise's first ever college draft pick, Seikaly became the first player born in Lebanon to compete in the National Basketball Association

Fadi El Khatib 

Fadi El Khatib  nicknamed "the Lebanese Tiger" is a Lebanese professional basketball player for Sagesse SC of the Lebanese Basketball League. El Khatib played for several teams in the Lebanese Basketball League, and also played abroad in Syria, Ukraine and China. He was also a member of the Lebanon national team that finished runners-up in the FIBA Asia Championship three times, in 2001, 2005 and 2007. El Khatib also participated in the FIBA World Championship in 2002, 2006 and 2010.

Fouad Chehab Stadium

Fouad Chehab Stadium is a football stadium located in the city of Jounieh. The stadium was built in 1971 and named after President Fouad Chehab, who served as Lebanon's president from 1958 to 1964. The stadium has a capacity of 12,000 spectators and is home to the football club Olympic Beirut. In addition to hosting football matches, the stadium has also been used for various concerts and events. It is an important landmark in the region and has played a significant role in promoting sports and entertainment in Lebanon.

The stadium is an outdoor sports complex, featuring a football pitch that meets FIFA standards. The pitch is surrounded by seating for fans and is also used for other outdoor sports such as running and rugby.

The stadium's basketball court is a fully equipped indoor court with a seating capacity of 500. It's designed to meet the highest standards required for basketball matches and meets the regulations set by FIBA, the international governing body for basketball. The Fouad Chehab Stadium basketball court has played host to many high-profile basketball games, including international tournaments and local Lebanese league matches.

Sports can be a great way to help individuals with disabilities gain physical strength and stamina, improve their coordination, and boost their self-confidence and self-esteem.

Additionally, adaptive sports programs can modify activities to accommodate specific disabilities and allow individuals to participate on an equal playing field.

Overall, sports can improve the physical and mental well-being of individuals with disabilities and provide a fun and fulfilling way to stay active and engaged in life.

Al Riyadi is the most decorated Lebanese basketball club, with 30 league titles, two FIBA Asia Champions Cups and five Arab Club Championships.

In conclusion, sports offer numerous benefits to individuals and society as a whole. Regular participation in sports can improve physical health, mental well-being, and social skills. Furthermore, sports can provide opportunities for personal growth and achievement, as well as a sense of community and belonging.

Playing sport has become very important today, since it can encourage young people to develop important values such as loyalty, perseverance, friendship, sharing and solidarity.
